This policy explains the cookies and browser storage the Ugenie website uses.

The short version
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not follow you around the web. We use two cookies of our own for the genie, one more to keep you signed in if you have an account, a little storage in your browser, and a bot check from Cloudflare. The genie only remembers you for longer than your visit if you ask it to, in the chat. That is why we do not show a cookie banner.
What we use
genie_pass

Remembers you passed the bot check, so you are not asked again each time you talk to the genie. It holds a signed, scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, so it only works on the connection where you passed.
genie_visit
Cookie (ours) · Strictly necessary · Until you close your browser, unless you ask for longer
Holds a random id for your chat with the genie, so it keeps your place if you reload the page or look round the site, and can welcome you back. The id points to your answers on our server; the cookie holds nothing else, and only our server can read it. If you choose “Just remember me here” it lasts 30 days, and once you join the waitlist 180 days, each counted again from your last visit. “Not you?” and “Forget me” clear it.
sb-…-auth-token

Keeps you signed in to your dashboard. Supabase's sign-in code sets it on our website. It holds your sign-in tokens, which include your account id and email address, and we check them with Supabase on every dashboard page. If it is too big for one cookie, it is split into parts ending .0, .1 and so on. Signing out clears it on that device.

ugenie:attribution

Holds the campaign tags or friend's referral code from the link you followed, so they can be saved if you join the waitlist.

Remembers which Jargon words you have already seen on the Genius page, so each day you get a new one.
Cloudflare Turnstile

Checks you are a person, not a bot, on the waitlist form, when you ask for a sign-in code and before the genie replies. Cloudflare may use its own strictly necessary cookies or storage to do this.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page visits and a few button presses, such as joining the waitlist. It does not use cookies, does not store anything on your device, and does not identify you.
Managing cookies and storage
You can clear or block cookies and site storage in your browser settings. If you block the bot check, the waitlist form, signing in and the genie will not work, but the rest of the site will. If you block or clear the genie's cookies, it will not remember where you were. If you block or clear the sign-in cookie, you will need a new code to see your dashboard.
